Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: The Jain International School is soon going to offer CBSE-i curriculum in Nagpur, and this would be the-first- of- its- kind in the city. Nagpur is possibly the only Tier II city which already has all the major school boards. The city has schools affiliated to ICSE, CBSE and IB. The city has also an IGCSE board school which started in the last academic session. This 2015-16 academic session onwards Nagpur is going to see CBSE-i Curriculum School as well.

Principal of the school, Anmol Badjatia proudly said, “There are only 80 schools in India which have been given permission to start the CBSE-i curriculum and ours is the only one in entire Vidarbha. This curriculum offers the best of both worlds-of CBSE and international boards. CBSE-i is 70% local and 30% global which will offer the perfect balanced academic platform.”

The recently launched curriculum has out of the box approach towards academics and their primary section consists of ideas that certainly are quite different from what we have seen from ages. The primary section of this curriculum (For Class I and II), it doesn’t have grades but emoticons to evaluate the copies of students. Badjatia further added, “So there is a smiley, another one with a lesser degree of smile and then finally no smile. From Class III onwards we do have exams but they are again a complete evaluation system with four formative and two summative assessments. It is a very different concept. There are no books till Class V as all the teaching material is available online to us. Yes, there will be printed manuals for parents, so that they are aware of what is going on in school.”

CBSE-i is one such curriculum which establishes a balance between international style and Indian style of curriculum. Badjatia further added, “Books start from Class VI which helps students gear up for the traditional system. Also this curriculum will help students when they appear for medical and engineering entrance exams. This was an issue with the other international boards because students were not prepared for this change.”

Director of the school, Anuj Badjate said, “It is often reported in the media that only 20% of our students are employable. So it is important that we provide vocational skills to students right from the school level. CBSE-i has included in its curriculum subjects like life skills, perspectives which will provide an overall growth of a student.”

Confluence aims at creating a forum for meaningful research in the field of learning and teaching English language. Tirpude College’s Annual Day programme ‘Cresendo’ showcased various dance programmes. Among various dances that were presented, the first performance had guys and gals presenting a western dance titled “Loping-Popping”. These performances were presented under “College Panorama”. This was followed by a solo performance of a girl who sang the popular Hindi Bollywood number “Hum Tere Bin Rah Nahi Saktey….”

Rula Diya Yaar!
The piece-de-resistance act was when ten female students of Tirpude College presented a tear-jerker mime performance during the 16th edition of Crescendo titled ‘Crescendology Entertainment Ka Garam Jugaad’ Youth festival which is on from January 21 to 25, 2015.

Ten girls all dressed in black T-shirt and jeans with their faces masked by white paint presented this mime act depicting the 2012 Delhi gang rape case which involved a rape and fatal assault that occurred on December 16, 2012 in Munirka, in South Delhi, when a 23-year-old female physiotherapy intern named Nirbhaya (Jyoti Singh Pande) was beaten and gang raped in a private bus in which she was travelling with a male friend.

The act started with these ten girls sitting in a semi-circle, where a voice over related the horrendous and fear-provoking incidents almost many girls go through in these day. The voice-over with a girl complaining to her mother, how old uncles make them sit on their lap, how uncles look for a chance to caress her, how elder brother is always trying to touch her, how Sabji Wallay, Doodh Walah, Auto Walah etc (Vegetable vendor, Milk vendor, Auto-driver) are looking for a chance to touch her and often touch them. The voice-over with a girl’s voice asked her mother that she was not even safe in the mother’s womb. The girl declared how only because of the lady doctor’s advice, she was allowed to be born against the wishes of her father who was hell bent on aborting the foetus of the girl-child.

Then started the mime depicting the scene where the victim Nirbhaya and her friend climb into the bus and how they are trying to save themselves and then how the two are thrown out on the road. How the young male friend tries to get-up and tries to save his female friend and how he becomes unconscious and finally with the sound of police and ambulance, the scene depicted Nirbhaya getting operated on the Operation Table, while her male friend is out sitting with other protesting against the rape and demanding justice for the victim and girls per se.

These ten girls beautifully depicted how the girl died from her injuries later while undergoing emergency treatment and how the incident generated widespread national and international media coverage. However, they ended with the mother crying with the body of her daughter and later crying with the teddy-bear of her daughter Nirbhaya.

So touching was the scene, that the young guys who till then were seen hooting and whistling and making crude remarks at the other performers were silent. They became serious. More than one lady was seen with teary eyes. The women’s section which included the lady teachers and girl students were practically moved to tears.

After the mime act, when the participants lined up to curtsey to acknowledge the applause of the audience on stage, almost the entire audience got up and more than one girl or lady was heard saying “Rula Diya Yaar” (They made me cry).

Tirpude Institute of Management Education, part of Group Tirpude of Yugantar Education Society has been organising this popular event Crescendo for the last 15 years.
