gmch-studentNagpur News: Student council of Govt. Medical College and Hospital Nagpur conducted cleanliness drive in its premises on Friday.

Around 300 students, teachers and staff members got down on Friday morning and started cleaning the garbage and filth in the GMCH premises and contributed to the drive with enthusiasm and collected 500 bags of garbage.

This institute has a huge shortage of class IV staff. More than 360 workers (class IV and sanitary workers) have retired or on the verge of retirement. The remaining staff shouldered with a huge workload in the campus. New Departments have begun in the Govt. Medical College and Hospital in the last 40 years. The class IV and sanitary workers vacancy have not been filled up since 2006, the work load on the existing work force has increased many fold. This is the reason for the administration facing difficulty in regular functioning.

gmchstudent

The running of the Govt. medical college falls in the purview of State Govt., NMC and PWD. It is their collective responsibility to ensure the cleanliness of the surroundings. PWD should oversee the removal of construction wastes created by the department itself. Regular water supply and garbage removal is the responsibility of NMC in Nagpur. If the PWD and NMC do their duties regularly and properly then the load of keeping a control on maintenance would be easier. About 2000 to 2500 patients are seen in the Govt. hospital daily and if regular maintenance is done the work load would become so much lesser.

There is a continuous effort being put up by the administration and the staff of the Govt. Medical college and Hospital, but because of deficiency of staff such large premise maintenance falls as a heavy burden on the administration

Around 300 students, teachers and staff members contributed to the drive with enthusiasm 500 bags of garbage were collected. The commendable work initiated and done was duly applauded by all. Looking at the irreparable issues the President Student Council Pritish Deshmukh, Shubham Samdani,Vardhaman Rothe, Sandeep Hade, Sameer Rathod, Harkishan Mamtani, Sameer Deshmukh, Shri Darshan Tatia, Ms. Aditi gupta, Ms. Aishwarya Shah, Ms. Akshayee kale, Ms.Minal Bicchewar, Dean,Dr R.M. Powar, Superintendant, Dr Apurva Pawde, along with Dr. P. Dixit, Dr. Krishna Kamble, Dr. Muddeshwar, Dr. Tirpude, Dr Mrs S Mundle, Dr. Lata Tapanikar,Dr. Barsagade, Dr. Tambe, Dr. Mrs Pathankar, Dr Mona Deshmukh, Dr P Bagde, Dr A Gawande, Dr Jiwtode, Dr Wakode, Dr S Kokate, Dr Murari Singh, Dr Tarar and Dr Siddiqui and other teachers have come forth with the initiative of the cleanliness drive as an ongoing process for the institution.

Keeping in mind the message from Sant Gadge Baba: “Cleanliness to prosperity”, the medical students also enthusiastically adopted the slogan “CLEAN GMCH, HEALTHY GMCH”.

There have been efforts in the past by other NGOs in the cleanliness drive from time to time in the Govt. Medical college and Institute.

The Student council members requested NGOs to do cleanliness drive and also it is a humble request to the patients and their relatives that they should not litter garbage and waste taking into consideration that this is not only a Govt. setup but also their own thus keeping in mind the upkeep of the place.
