Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur.

Maharashtra Government, adhering to the provision of Right To Education (RTE) Act, has fixed July 31 as cut-off date of age limit for nursery admissions in the State. Now, July 31 will count as children’s age for nursery admissions for academic session 2014-15. However, the move has started drawing strong opposition from parents and others.

According to experts, the children, who are born after July 31, will face problems in getting nursery admissions. Now, even if the kids are born on August 1, they will not get admissions in accordance with the rules of Government. Previously, school administrations used to admit kids in nursery even after two-three months. But after the Government’s order, both the kids and their parents will face problems. There is also possibility of waste of one academic year for the children. Opposing the move, the RTI activist Shahid Sharif has demanded that the Government should extend relief of at least 60 days.

HRD Minister Smriti Irani favored RSS man for naming him as Nagpur VNIT’s chairman?

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

jamdar-vnitNagpur.In a first case of embarrassment to BJP led Narendra Modi government at the Centre, a matter of Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani reportedly favouring an RSS man to the coveted post of Chairman of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology in Nagpur, has surfaced out of the closet. This man namely Vishram Jamdar was said to have written a congratulatory letter to Irani two days after she was sworn in as HRD minister.  Interestingly, he had also reportedly attached his application to get himself nominated for the desired post, citing his RSS background and also how his family members met her during her brief Nagpur stay.

Later, a panel of four names recommended by the HRD ministry for the same post was set aside and Jamdar’s name was sent as the only option to the President for nomination. It was approved on September 15.

A reputed newspaper published a detailed article online, in which it also quoted the transcripts of the letter. In his letter to Irani on May 28, Jamdar wrote, “During your brief stay at our place in Nagpur & subsequent meeting in BJP office at Delhi, myself and my family members found an exceptional personality in you. We are all sure that under your able leadership the Ministry of HRD will achieve higher goals in respective field of HRD.”

“I have enclosed my resume along with this letter & take this opportunity to give some more details, with specific focus on the tenure of a Member, Board of Governors, VNIT Nagpur during 2002 till 2012,” he wrote.

In the letter, he referred to his RSS background. “Being recognised as RSS person I could remain there in VNIT Nagpur as BOG member in spite of the fact that Mr Arjun Singhji was HRD Minister during that period. This may probably speak of my work in VNIT Nagpur.”

“With this background I earnestly feel to render my services as the Chairman of this college for the development & upgradation of this college. Incidentally the tenure of the present Chairman is also over in the month of May 2014 only. If given an opportunity as a Chairman VNIT Nagpur I shall be working whole heartedly & intimately for the Institute as I take it as my Vidya Mandir,” Jamdar informed Irani.

The report added although appointments to 12 NITs were pending before Irani since June — panels had to be approved for submission to the President — the HRD ministry on August 29 singled out the vacancy in VNIT Nagpur on grounds that the institute was “continuously insisting on early nomination”.

The ministry appended four names — Dr Shreeram Inamdar, Professor at University of Delaware; B M Munjal, Chairman of Hero Honda Motors Ltd; M G Parameswaran, Executive Director & CEO of FCB Ulka Advertising Pvt Ltd; and, Arun Jain, Chairman & CEO of Polaris Software Lab Ltd — besides giving Irani the option to “recommend some other suitable names to the Honourable Visitor”.

A week later, Irani recommended Jamdar’s name. The President approved it on September 15.

What does rule say?

Under the NIT Act of 2007, the President, in his capacity as Visitor to NITs, nominates their chairpersons and members. Since 2008, the practice has been for the HRD minister to send a panel of at least two names to the President from a list of four or five drawn up by the ministry. Prior to the enactment of the NIT Act, the chairpersons were directly selected by the HRD minister in his capacity as Chairman of the Council of NITs. In July 2010, the ministry decided to approach the scientific community, CSIR, IITs, industrial and commercial institutions as well as industry houses to nominate persons of eminence for the posts of chairpersons of 30 NITs.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

cautionary_signs1Nagpur: Alarmed over growing road accidents, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to introduce ‘Road Safety’ lessons in its schools. The lessons will be taught in 2014-15 academic session. Moreover, the CBSE is contemplating to make the ‘Road Safety’ lessons a part of course.

Structure of course is being readied:

According to information, the CBSE and the Union Surface Transport Ministry are jointly preparing structure of the course. Initially, the course will be included in four subjects of Class VI to Class X. The lessons concerning ‘Road Safety’ will be included in English, Hindi, Math and Social Science subjects. In future, a separate subject on ‘Road Safety’ is likely to be included in the CBSE course.

Helpful:

According to expert, due to lack of knowledge about traffic rules, road accidents have increased alarmingly claiming thousands of lives every year. Youths are specifically riding vehicles ignoring the traffic rules. Apparently keeping this menace in mind, the CBSE has contemplated to make ‘Road Safety’ a part of the course and spread information on traffic awareness. This course, to a large extent, can be helpful in minimizing road accidents across the country.

“Yes, I am an RSS man, but does this take away my technical expertise?”, reacts new VNIT Chairman Vishram Jamdar

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

DSC05049Nagpur: Vishram Jamdar, a well known local Industrialist and an alumni of Nagpur based Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), formerly VRCE was made Chairman of his alma mater in September 2014, almost two months ago. But a controversy has erupted about his appointment by HRD Minister Smriti Irani, because of a news article carried by a national newspaper, in which it was alleged that his RSS credentials helped him in getting him elevated to the coveted post. A  letter he wrote to the Minister congratulating her and applying for the post became the high point of this controversy.

In a first media interview post this controversy, Jamdar interacted with Nagpur Today put an effort to clear his stand.

“Yes, I am an RSS man, so what?” He said. “Does it take away from my technology expertise and experience, in both industry and academics?”, he questioned.

“Do they know that I was Chairman of the Board of studies of the Nagpur Polytechnic when it was made autonomous and the process took place under my guidance? I have also been on the Board of Governors (BOG) of VNIT ever since It became autonomous in 2002. Besides, I have been a student of this institute and am Chairman of four successful companies established by me. I think that makes me eminently suitable for the position” he concluded.

Mr. Jamdar had all praise for Ms. Irani. “She is very sincere, hard working & dynamic  and has to manage one of the biggest Ministries. She has the vision to make a difference to our Education scenario that will benefit Indian children and youth.” He said.

Plans for VNIT

Right now, VNIT is ranked 10th among the NITs of the country. “Our goal is very simple. We just want to remove the 0 – taking VNIT to number one position” said the Chairman.

The strategy they have in place for this is three dimensional – Fill up the vacant faculty positions so the student: faculty ratio is 13:1 as prescribed by the Kakodkar Committee. The present strength of VNIT students is 4000. The aim is to henceforth hire only doctorates even if it is for the position of Asst. Professor. Exposure to industry will be considered an additional qualification but the norm for holding a Ph.D. will not be relaxed. Scholars will be sourced from the Indian community internationally.

Curriculum will be altered to make Engineering studies more practical. A Research park is proposed with the theme of ‘Research with a Social face’. Explaining this concept Jamdar said that Research should be such that it makes the life of people easier. It should save time and money when applied to industry without diverting from the quality.

DSC05054

“On the one hand we have European and American customers who want precision and excellence in their products but cannot manufacture in their own countries due to cost escalations and other factors, on the other hand we have China which has mastered the technique of mass production at cheap prices – but often at the cost of quality, consistency or schedules. And then these industries come to India where they are satisfied on all counts without compromising too much on price. This is the Indian Engineer’s intrinsic talent which our institutes should hone,” Jamdar pointed out.

Many machines are in the domain of CNC – Computer Numerically Controlled. If their process time can be brought down from a few hours to 30 minutes it will lead to a huge saving. When quizzed on this, he said, “We have done these things in our own companies and students have done Research papers on this”

The third goal the BOG has set for VNIT is making it a GREEN institute. “We will make best possible use of the land we have while conserving power and water.” said Jamdar.

Thus they plan to install solar panels wherever possible without disturbing the tree cover and also go in for recycling of water. It must be mentioned here that VNIT campus is like the lungs that keep South Nagpur from suffocating from vehicular and other pollution that has gone up a lot recently. It is also a haven for morning and evening walkers who look forward to a refreshing stroll in its green environment to get rid of the day’s stress.

Nagpur Today : Nagpur News

Nagpur: Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has introduced online application for SSC summer 2015 examination. It may be noted that board has also fixed the examination fees for the same. However, many students are complaning that schools are charging more examination fees than the fixed fees.

The process for online application has begun from Monday, November 10 till November 20. The schools have to fill in the Bank chalaan of students by November 21 to 26,2014. It is coming to the notice that schools are misusing this facility and charging fees more than they should be.

This thing came to light through students, who while discussing the examination fees observed that there are differences of fees being charged in thier respective schools. Various schools were charging different examination fees.

The Fees fixed by the board

Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education has fixed examination fees Rs. 350. i.e examination fees 100, marksheet 10rs, certificate 10, practical examination fees 10rs all together Rs 350. And acording to information from students some schools are charging the exact 350 rs and some are charging 400 to 500. This arbitrary charges by some schools is giving a setback to transparency which was expected from the online process.

The process for online application has begun from Monday, November 10 till November 20. Last date for online submission with late fee is from November 21 to November 28. While filling of Bank chalaan by November 21 to 26. However some of the schools have started collecting the fees from past 1 month.

Svians evening with CM
Nagpur.

All ex students and ex teachers of Saraswati Vidyalaya, Shankar Nagar, Nagpur (SVN) will have the honour of enjoying the company of their alumni member Shri.Devendra Fadnavis who recently took over as Chief Minister of Maharashtra state. He has agreed to the request of Saraswati Vidyalaya Ex-students & ex-teacher’s Forum to attend a Get-together with all ex students and ex- teachers on 28th December 2014 6pm onwards in school premises. 40 batches have now joined hands to organise “Svians evening with CM” under aegis Saraswati Vidyalaya Ex-students & ex-teacher’s Forum. Only ex students and ex teachers of Saraswati Vidyalaya will be present during this exclusive gathering. This is rare event wherein ex- students of a school from 40 different batches are gathering together to celebrate their alumnus.

On this occasion, Shri.Kapil Maheshwari of 1998 and Shri.Sameer Badhe of 1991 SVN stated that “When we came to know that CM has refused to accept a felicitation, instead he has consented for a reunion; we were truly impressed. For youngsters like me, he is an ideal.”

Shri.Shreekrishna Buty and Shri.G.Sunil of 1982 SVN batch said that an idea from ex- teacher Shri.Chandrakant Virkhare led to a 12 member core group which expanded to 26 Convener group and then enhanced to 35 batch coordinators representing various batches. All are enthusiastically involved for success of this event. Uniqueness of this gathering is most of these 56 persons from various batches had never met earlier and are now united only because of humble personality of CM.

Shri.Rakesh Purohit and Shri.Nandkishore Dube of 1985 SVN batch added that “We were always keen to have reunion of 1985 SVN batch to which Shri.Devendra Fadnavis belongs. But when we saw the passion and pride with which all batches came forward; we conceived such a get-together. Now we have ex-students of 15 to70 years engrossed in planning for this get together to reach out to maximum students.”

Shri.Sandeep Pandey and Shri.Rahul Soman from 1993 SVN batch mentioned that “An fb group namely Saraswati Vidyalaya Ex-students & ex-teacher’s CM Felicitation Forum created by the Forum grew from 10 to 3500 members in 15 days. And now we have ex-students from all across globe from different batches interacting daily, exchanging photos and recollecting school days on daily basis. Such bonhomie across batches is very rare to find.”

Shri.Ashish Khandelwal from 1992 SVN batch said that “ All ex students & ex-teachers of SVN who are interested in attending this get-together evening with CM should contact their batch coordinators as Admit only one Entry Passes will be issued only to ex students and ex teachers on first come first serve basis.”
